Municipal election results: Wives of AAP MLA, Ex-Minister lose contests in Ludhiana; Check full results
Chandigarh: The results of municipal elections held across five corporations in Punjab were announced, with significant political developments emerging.
In Ludhiana, Mamta Ashu, wife of former Congress minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, was defeated by AAP’s Gurpreet Babbar. Similarly, BJP candidate Poonam Ratda defeated Meenu Parashar, wife of AAP MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi, in Ward 77.
In Jalandhar, former mayor Jagdish Raja, who recently switched from Congress to AAP, and his wife also lost the elections. An independent candidate, Shivnath Shibbu, narrowly lost Ward 48 by one vote to AAP’s Harjinder Singh.
Municipal Corporation Results Overview:
Ludhiana: AAP won 34 seats, Congress 21, BJP 14, and Akali Dal 3.
Jalandhar: AAP emerged victorious with 38 seats, Congress secured 25, BJP 19, BSP 1, and Independents 2.
Patiala: AAP dominated with 45 seats, while BJP won 4, and Congress and Akali Dal secured 2 each. Elections were not held in 7 wards.
Amritsar: Congress won 10 seats, AAP 11, BJP 1, and Independents claimed 4 seats.
Phagwara: Congress emerged as the single largest party with 22 seats, AAP secured 12, BJP 5, Akali Dal 2, BSP 1, and Independents 3.
In Amritsar, a notable victory for the Congress saw Raj Kanwal Lucky and his daughter Dr. Shobhit Kaur win from Ward 14 and Ward 9, respectively.
Meanwhile, AAP secured a stronghold in Patiala, signaling shifting political dynamics in Punjab.
