No hike in Punjab electricity tariff for 2025-26, some consumers to see lower bills
Chandigarh: The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has announced the electricity tariff for 2025-26, which will remain unchanged for all categories of consumers. The new rates will be applicable from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
The commission, chaired by retired IAS officer Vishwajit Khanna and retired district and sessions judge Paramjit Singh, rejected a proposed tariff hike by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). PSPCL had projected a revenue loss of ₹5,090.89 crore for 2025-26, but after a financial review, PSERC determined a revenue surplus of ₹311.50 crore.
With the total revenue from the current tariff at ₹47,985.81 crore and the net requirement at ₹47,674.31 crore, the commission redesigned the tariff to avoid additional financial burden on consumers.
Key changes in the tariff structure include:
No increase in fixed charges for any category.
Simplified slabs for domestic (DS) and non-residential (NRS) consumers.
Consumers using more than 300 units per month will see lower bills.
Deductions in bills:
₹160 for load up to 2 kW
₹90 for load between 2 kW and 7 kW
₹32 for load between 7 kW and 20 kW
NRS consumers using up to 500 units will receive a deduction of 2 paise per unit, leading to savings of about ₹110 per month.
