No lehenga during Sikh marriages, orders Panj Singh Sahiban
Panj Singh Sahiban or five Sikh clergymen have issued new guidelines concerning Anand Karaj (marriage) in accordance with Sikh dignity at Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded. Furthermore, the resolution passed during the meeting in Nanded Sahib is to be strictly enforced. Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in strict action. These instructions aim to address the increasing trend of ostentation during marriages and lavas (pheras).
A key directive is for girls to avoid wearing heavy lehengas during the lavas and instead opt for kameez, salwar, and a head covering (sardine). It has been observed that girls often arrive at Gurudwaras during Lavas ceremonies adorned in expensive and fashionable lehengas and ghagras. These garments are excessively heavy, making it challenging for the bride to walk, stand, sit, and pay respects before Guru Maharaja.
