No strike: Petrol pumps to remain open in Punjab tomorrow

Chandigarh: Petrol pumps in Punjab will not be closed on Friday. The agitating farmers sought support from petrol pump owners for their demands, but the petrol pump dealers’ association has not made any decision regarding it.

Yogendra Pal Dhingra, associated with the Amritsar district unit of the association, stated that the supply at petrol pumps in urban areas will remain normal on Friday. However, there may be some impact in rural areas due to the call from farmer associations.

Petrol pump owners will decide whether to close the pumps in rural areas or not, as no decision has been made at the association level.

On the other hand, Rajesh Kumar, the general secretary of the Punjab Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA), clarified that they have no connection with the current farmers’ protest. He issued a press note explaining that pump owners have their own issues, including increasing commission rates.

Consequently, a ‘No Purchase Day’ was observed on February 15, and February 22 has been declared a ‘No Sale Day’, meaning all petrol pumps will be closed on that day.

According to Rajesh Kumar, pump owners refrained from purchasing oil from companies on Thursday due to their demands.

He emphasized that this action should not be associated with the farmers’ movement. Rajesh Kumar claimed that PPDA is a 51-year-old body, and only the Petroleum Association of West Bengal is older. All petrol pumps in Punjab are affiliated with PPDA, and discussions are underway with the government and oil companies.
