Now Punjab residents to get electricity bills in Punjabi

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday, January 23, heard a petition concerning the issuance of electricity bills in English in Punjab.

In response, the Punjab government informed the court that electricity bills are now being issued in Punjabi across the state. However, individuals who prefer bills in English can request them from the meter reader on-site.

The court advised the petitioner to file another plea if this arrangement is not implemented effectively.

The petitioner argued that since the formation of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in 2010, electricity bills have been issued exclusively in English.

Previously, under the electricity board, bills featured both Punjabi and English, making them easier for residents to understand.

The petitioner claimed the shift had caused significant inconvenience to the public.
