Chandigarh: The Amritsar Police Commissionerate has arrested five individuals in connection with the shooting of NRI Sukhchain Singh. However, the main shooters remain at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them. Among those arrested is Sarwan Singh, Sukhchain Singh’s father-in-law and a resident of Tanda Hoshiarpur. Sarwan Singh is the father of Sukhchain’s first wife.

The other accused have been identified as Jagjit Singh and Chamkaur Singh, both residents of Thath village in Tarn Taran, along with hotel owner Digambar Atri and hotel manager Abhilash Bhaskar of Katra Ahluwalia.

Jagjit and Chamkaur were acquainted with the shooters and provided them shelter in the Tarn Taran area.

Police official Dhillon said that the two suspects have been identified, and raids are being conducted to apprehend them.

One of the suspects has 10 criminal cases registered against him, including charges of murder, theft, robbery, and violations under the NDPS Act. This suspect was released on bail from Kapurthala jail in February, while his accomplice, who also faces NDPS charges, was released from the same jail in September of last year.

Earlier, the police registered a case against three US-based NRIs: Sukhchain Singh’s brother-in-law Sukhwinder Singh, sister-in-law Kuljinder Kaur, her husband Jasvir Singh, and mother-in-law Nishan Kaur. Two armed assailants had barged into the house of NRI Sukhchain Singh in Daburji on Saturday and shot him in front of his family members.

During the attack, the assailants’ pistols jammed, causing them to flee the scene. Sukhchain was hit by two bullets but was taken to a hospital, where his condition is now reported to be stable.
