One arrested with Rs 3 crore and $3,100 in ‘hawala money’ by Jalandhar Commissionerate Police

Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, has busted a gang involved in hawala business and arrested one person and recovered around Rs 3 crore, including USD 3,100, from his possession.

Disclosing this here today, the Commissioner of Police said that the police had received information about the informer, following which a team of Police Station New Baradari Jalandhar conducted a check near T-Point Bashirpura Jalandhar.

He said the police had received information from a reliable source that some criminals were selling illegal weapons, liquor and narcotics in the city. Acting swiftly on a tip-off, the team intercepted a Creta car for checking and intercepted Puneet Sood alias Gandhi from Dussehra Ground Hoshiarpur near Katra Mohalla, when he was on his way to deliver the hawala amount.

During checking, the police recovered Rs 2,93,05,800, and 3,100 foreign currency (US dollars) in hawala money from his possession.

Swapan Sharma said police are ascertaining the origin and location of the hawala money and details will be shared soon.
