Over 1 kg of heroin seized from Punjab’s Goindwal Central Jail
Chandigarh: More than one kilogram of heroin was seized during a search operation at Goindwal Central Jail in Punjab, police sources confirmed.
The operation, carried out by the local police, also uncovered about half a dozen mobile phones from various barracks within the jail.
A case has been registered at the Goindwal Sahib police station regarding the recovery. However, District Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Rana denied knowledge of the operation or the confiscated heroin.
“I have no information about the search conducted in Goindwal Sahib jail or the recovery of heroin. Please contact the local police for details,” Rana said.
The incident has raised concerns over the apparent smuggling of drugs and mobile phones into the high-security prison. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter further.
