Panchayat elections in Punjab to be held before October 20

Chandigarh: The decks have been cleared for the panchayat elections in Punjab and the panchayat elections will be held before October 20. A notification is being issued soon by the Rural Development and Panchayats Department.

The Panchayat Department will forward this notification to the Punjab State Election Commission and the Election Commission will issue the schedule of panchayat elections on this basis and it is possible to announce the election dates at any time. According to sources, the panchayat elections are likely to be held on October 13.

The Rural Development and Panchayats Department had recently sent a file related to the panchayat elections to the Chief Minister’s Office, which has been cleared by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The Punjab Governor has already approved the amendments made in the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 for reservation of Sarpanches.

A notification in this regard has also been issued by the Principal Secretary, Department of Legal and Legislative Affairs, Government of Punjab on September 16.

Now that the process has been started by the Rural Development and Panchayats Department, it is clear that panchayat elections will be held before October 20.
