Panic in Jalandhar after firecrackers mistaken for missile blasts; FIR registered

Jalandhar: Even though tensions between India and Pakistan have subsided, fear and panic continue to grip residents in Punjab’s border regions.
In Jalandhar and Kapurthala—along with other areas near the international border—people reported hearing loud blasts after Pakistani drones and missiles had earlier targeted locations in the region.
Amid this tense atmosphere, unidentified individuals in Jalandhar allegedly burst firecrackers late at night, triggering further panic among residents who mistook the sounds for missile attacks.
According to the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, the incident took place in areas under Police Station Division Number 8. An FIR has been registered against unknown individuals based on statements provided by police personnel.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurmail Singh said, “When the Indo-Pak war came to an end, some miscreants burst firecrackers and fireworks late in the night to create an atmosphere of fear among the people. This caused panic in the area.”
He added that as soon as the police received information, a team from Division Number 8 rushed to the scene.
Although no suspects have been identified yet, police have launched an investigation to track down those responsible for causing public alarm and attempting to disturb peace in the city.
