Police to also probe angle if Sukhbir Badal staged attack for sympathy: Amritsar CP
Chandigarh: Punjab Police have launched a high-level inquiry following an attempt on the life of Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Darbar Sahib on Wednesday morning.
The accused, identified as Naren Singh Chaura, was apprehended at the scene, and the weapon used in the attack was recovered.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. Speaking to the media, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar revealed that the police are probing multiple angles, including a possible political motive behind the attack.
In a controversial statement, Bhullar said that authorities are also investigating whether Sukhbir Singh Badal orchestrated the attack himself to garner public sympathy.
“We are examining all possible motives, including the intentions of the attacker, Naren Singh,” Bhullar said.
The Police Commissioner commended the quick response of police personnel, stating that their alertness helped prevent a major tragedy. Further updates on the investigation are awaited.
