Principals in Punjab will no longer retire in the middle of the academic session, will remain in service till March 31
Punjab News: The Punjab government has deferred retirement of principals in government schools during the academic session from August 31 to February 28.
Under the latest decision, principals will be retired on March 31 in the new year.
The School Education Department has taken this decision with the aim of maintaining continuity in the education of children.
The Punjab School Teachers Extension in Service Act, 2015 was enacted by the state government to retain teachers who retire after August 31 every year till March 31. Its main objective was that the retirement of the teacher in the middle of the academic session affects the education of school children.
Under this Act, earlier the service period of those principals was extended, who had academic work in addition to administrative work, but it has been seen that when the principal retires during the academic session, the education of the children is directly or indirectly affected. Apart from this, about 500 posts of principals are vacant in the Education Department.
