Protests erupt in Mohali after Bajwa’s remarks on bomb threat; AAP, Congress clash over controversy
Chandigarh: Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, has been summoned for questioning at Mohali police station today following his controversial remarks during an interview on a private news channel. Bajwa had spoken about a bomb threat in Punjab, triggering a political storm in the state.
While the Congress has launched a protest against the Punjab government over the police summons, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers have also taken to the streets in Mohali, staging a protest against the Congress.
AAP leaders and workers gathered in large numbers at the parking lot of Phase-2 market in Mohali for a sit-in demonstration.
Those present include AAP Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh, Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Burst, District Planning Committee Chairperson Prabhjot Kaur, as well as leaders Babbi Badal, Vineet Verma, and youth leader Prince Dhaliwal.
Aman Arora said Bajwa should have immediately shared the information with the Punjab government or police if he had credible intelligence, as it involved the security of the state.
“If he was speaking based on facts, he must submit the information. Otherwise, Bajwa should either take a clear stance or issue a public apology for his hasty statement,” Arora said.
