PU student stabbed to death during live show, protests erupt on campus

Chandigarh: A student was stabbed to death during a live show of Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma at Panjab University, Chandigarh, on the night of March 28. The event was organised by student council leader Jaswinder Rana.

The victim, identified as Aditya Thakur from Himachal Pradesh, was attacked by a group of youths and succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at PGI Chandigarh.

According to sources, Aditya was assaulted with knives at the event and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Following his death, protests erupted on the university campus, with student organisations expressing anger towards the PU administration.

A large number of students gathered at the Students’ Centre and marched to the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) office, demanding the immediate resignation of the vice-chancellor, DSW, and the chief security officer.

Amid the protests, security personnel had to escort the chief security officer from the premises as tensions escalated. The gate of the DSW office was closed, but students continued raising slogans against the administration.
