Punjab AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi dies in ‘accidental firing’ in Ludhiana
Chandigarh: The mortal remains of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi from Ludhiana’s West Assembly seat were brought to his residence, where supporters gathered to pay their respects.
The cremation is scheduled at 3 pm at the crematorium near KVM School in Ludhiana. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to visit Gogi’s house at 2:30 pm. Meanwhile, Ludhiana’s Ghumar Mandi market has been closed in mourning.
Gogi was fatally shot around midnight on Friday. According to the family, he was cleaning his licensed 25-bore pistol at home when it accidentally discharged.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskiran Singh Teja said that only one shot was fired and ruled out depression as a possible cause. However, the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
A postmortem was conducted at DMC Hospital by a board of doctors, and the procedure was videographed. Sources revealed that the bullet entered from the right side and exited from the left side of his body.
