Punjab Assembly budget session adjourned sine die amid debate on Jathedar removals

Chandigarh: The budget session of the Punjab Assembly was adjourned sine die after discussions on various issues, including the recent removal of Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains raised concerns over the overnight change, calling it a matter affecting Sikhs worldwide.

He said politics and religion should remain separate and questioned the political pressure behind the decision.

Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Manpreet Ayali also criticized the move, stating that the Jathedars’ December 2 order was aimed at Akali Dal’s betterment and that laws should be in place to protect institutions from individual influence.

Meanwhile, MLA Sheri Kalsi demanded strict punishment for those involved in the sacrilege case, while MLA Rana Gurjit Singh called for a meeting with Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s family. All pending bills were passed before the session was adjourned.
