Punjab government focuses on youth skill development through technology, says CM Mann
Punjab E News: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is working towards fulfilling its promise of building a “Rangla Punjab” by focusing on education, healthcare, infrastructure, women empowerment, industry, and governance reforms. Policies have been designed to address these areas and are being effectively implemented on the ground. The government envisions a prosperous and educated Punjab in the near future.
Recognizing the importance of technical education in creating employment opportunities, the Punjab government is taking significant steps to equip the youth with technical skills. The government acknowledges that for Punjab’s youth to secure jobs in competitive industries, they must have access to high-quality technical training.
Key Initiatives in Technical Education
Polytechnic Colleges for Girls:
To promote technical education among women, five government polytechnic colleges for girls have been upgraded into centers of excellence. This initiative has led to an increase in enrollment.
Dual Training System:
Under the dual training system, the state has signed 180 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with various industries. These partnerships offer hands-on training to students, enhancing their employability.
Additional Courses in Colleges:
In response to industrial demands, additional courses have been introduced in polytechnic colleges, ensuring that students are equipped with relevant skills.
Increased Budget for Education:
For the year 2024-25, the government has allocated ₹525 crore to improve technical education infrastructure and streamline operations in technical training institutions.
Support for Higher Education
The Punjab government has also prioritized higher education by providing financial assistance to universities and affiliated colleges. A budget of ₹1,425 crore has been allocated for prominent institutions like Punjab Agricultural University, Punjab University, GADVASU, and Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University.
