Punjab government orders probe into fake ration card holders
New Delhi: After over 88, 000 smart ration cards made by the privileged people were canceled by the Punjab government, the total number of ration card holders found ineligible reached to 3.59 lakh.
The government has stopped rationing given to all these people under government schemes, as well as ordered all districts to investigate properly.
There are a total of 40.68 lakh ration card holders in 23 districts of Punjab. Of these, the scrutiny of 37.39 lakh ration card holders has been completed so far. Of these, 3.59 lakh ration cards have been found ineligible, which do not meet the terms and conditions of the department or there are flaws in their records. Most of them are people who are well-off. They have everything from luxurious closets to expensive cars. Some family members do government jobs.
They also have an arms license. Similarly, ration cards of 88064 ineligible people were canceled. Remember, the central government had cut 11% of Punjab’s ration some time ago, because the number of beneficiaries was more than the quota fixed by the Center. While the department’s minister Lal Chand Katruchak said that the work of verification of ration cards is going on, whoever meets the rules and standards, his ration cards will not be disconnected.
