Punjab Governor refuses to sign pending bills, says ‘will consult President’
Chandigarh: Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit has once again refused to sign the three bills sent by the Punjab government. He has said that he will take further action on these three bills only after consulting the President of the country.
Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has reserved the Punjab University Law (Amendment) Bill, 2023, the Sikh Gurdwara (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Punjab Police (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which he has refused to sign.
Meanwhile, the University Amendment Bill 2023, is related to the appointment of the Chief Minister as the Chancellor of the University in place of the Governor. While the second bill seeks to hand over the entire appointment process of the DGP to the government in the Punjab Police Amendment Bill. Apart from this, the Sikh Gurdwara Amendment Bill 2023 is related to the transmission of Gurbani from Sri Darbar Sahib.
