Punjab Governor to remain Chancellor of University: President refuses to give assent to University Laws Amendment Bill
Chandigarh: The Punjab University Laws Amendment Bill 2023 has been sent back to the government by President Droupadi Murmu without assent. The bill was passed unanimously in the Punjab Assembly on June 21 last year.
Under the bill, the power of the Vice Chancellor of 12 state universities of the state was given from the Governor to the Chief Minister.
However, due to the withdrawal of the said bill, the Governor will now be the chancellor of all the universities of the state. But, since then, the politics of the state has heated up again.
The government had fought a long battle regarding this bill. However, the government’s opinion has not been revealed in this matter yet.
