Punjab may not get any place in Modi cabinet this time
Chandigarh: The Modi government is poised to be in power for the third time at the center, but this time, there is no leader from Punjab who can be part of the Union Cabinet. In Punjab, the alliance between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal has broken. The BJP does not have any MPs from Punjab.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the Shiromani Akali Dal has won her seat, but she is not part of the NDA. The BJP also has no member in the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. In such a situation, speculations are being made that this time Punjab’s representation may be absent in the Modi cabinet.
In the Lok Sabha elections held in Punjab, Congress won seven seats, Shiromani Akali Dal one, AAP three, while two MPs won as independents. The BJP does not have a single MP who can be made part of the Union Cabinet. There is widespread discussion about whether there will be no one to raise the voice of Punjab in the Union Cabinet this time.
Regardless of whether it is a Congress government or the BJP, Punjab has always had representation in the central government.
In 2019, although Hardeep Puri lost the election from Amritsar, he was still made a minister at the center. He was sent to the Rajya Sabha and given the post of Union Minister.
In 2014, Arun Jaitley lost from Amritsar in Punjab, but he was given a ministerial post from the Rajya Sabha. Vijay Sampla was also made the Union Minister of State in 2014.
In 2019, Som Parkash, the MP from Hoshiarpur, along with Hardeep Puri, was made Union Minister of State. Additionally, Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the Shiromani Akali Dal, who was in the coalition, was given the status of a cabinet minister.
