Punjab shines brighter with 300 units of free electricity under CM Bhagwant Mann’s government

Punjab E News: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is making electricity, water, roads, and industrial development its top priorities.
Among its flagship initiatives is the 300 Units Free Electricity Scheme, which has brought significant relief to the people of Punjab and lit up homes across the state.

Key Highlights of the Scheme

  1. Free Electricity for Households:

Since the scheme’s launch on July 1, 2022, approximately 90% of households in Punjab have benefited. Families consuming up to 300 units of electricity per month now receive zero electricity bills, providing much-needed financial relief.

  1. Support for Farmers:

Farmers have also experienced ease in meeting agricultural power requirements, boosting productivity and reducing expenses.

  1. Increased Savings:

With zero electricity bills, households can redirect their savings towards other family needs. The initiative has significantly improved the economic well-being of Punjab’s citizens.

  1. Steady Growth in Beneficiaries:

According to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), over 73 lakh domestic consumers now receive zero electricity bills, and this number is steadily rising.
Ensuring Uninterrupted Power Supply
The government has prioritized the improvement of electricity distribution and infrastructure:
Enhanced Network: Substations have been set up every 10 kilometers, including the establishment of India’s first 400 kV ring main system.
Power Plant Acquisition: The government recently acquired the Guru Amar Das Thermal Plant in Goindwal Sahib for ₹1,080 crore to ensure a reliable power supply. This brings the total to three government-run and two private thermal power plants in the state.
Timely Subsidies for PSPCL
To ensure the smooth operation of the scheme, the Punjab government has provided timely subsidies to PSPCL. In February and March 2024 alone, Rs 1,439 crore was disbursed to PSPCL, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and zero electricity bills.
Future Vision
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reiterated his commitment to public welfare, stating that the government will continue to implement people-centric policies effectively. With strengthened infrastructure and initiatives like free electricity, Punjab is steadily progressing towards sustainable and inclusive growth
