Punjab to challenge High Court order on water for Haryana in Supreme Court on Monday

Chandigarh: The Punjab government will approach the Supreme Court on Monday to challenge the High Court’s decision to allocate additional water to Haryana. Officials from the Advocate General’s office are giving final touches to the petition.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said he would not allow Punjab’s water to be “encroached upon,” citing his repeated attempts to release excess water from the Nangal Dam.

He alleged a central conspiracy behind the developments and vowed to oppose it firmly.

“The BBMB is acting at the behest of the BJP government at the Centre,” Mann said. “At a time when Punjab is standing strong against Pakistan at the border, the BJP government is trying to rob Punjab’s waters through BBMB officials.”
