Punjab to get first liver institute today, CM Bhagwant Mann to inaugurate

Chandigarh: Punjab’s first Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (PILBS) will be inaugurated today by state CM Bhagwant Mann. Preparations for this event have been completed by the government.

The institute, located in Mohali, will utilize ultra-modern techniques to treat liver-related diseases. State Health Minister Balbir Singh and other officials will be present at the inauguration ceremony, along with other arrangements being finalized at the hospital.

The government made the decision to establish the institute as soon as it came into power. It is the first of its kind in northern India, announced during the 2022 budget session.

Professor Virendra Singh, former head of the Department of Hepatology at PGI Chandigarh, has been appointed as the Director. The institute has been providing outpatient department (OPD) services for the past 8 months.

Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the institute aims to provide super-specialty care, training, and research in hepatology. The rising number of liver disease cases in the state prompted this initiative.
