Punjab to strengthen medical education and research with new colleges and facilities

Punjab E News: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is making significant efforts to strengthen medical education and research in the state. Recognizing healthcare and education as fundamental rights, the government is committed to ensuring quality facilities and opportunities for all citizens.

Major Investments in Healthcare Infrastructure
The government has allocated ₹114 crore for the establishment of the State Cancer Institute and ₹45 crore for a cancer treatment center in Fazilka.
The Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in SAS Nagar (Mohali) has been completed, and OPD services have been initiated.
To promote alternative medicine, the Guru Ravidas Ayurveda University in Hoshiarpur and “CM Di Yogshala” have been established to encourage yoga and mindfulness practices.
Expansion of Medical Colleges
Plans are underway to establish new medical colleges in Kapurthala, Malerkotla, Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, and Anandpur Sahib, each with a capacity of 100 MBBS seats.
At Patiala Medical College, a Rs 110 crore investment is being made for hostel facilities and a sports complex.
The government aims to add more MBBS seats across the state, addressing the growing demand for medical professionals.
Financial Commitment
A budget of Rs 1,133 crore has been allocated for developmental projects in medical education and research.
These initiatives will strengthen medical education, enhance research opportunities, and improve healthcare services across Punjab.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the importance of making healthcare accessible and affordable. “Our efforts in establishing state-of-the-art medical colleges and research centers reflect our commitment to improving the healthcare ecosystem in Punjab,” he added.
