Punjabi University supervisor sacked for withdrawing salary of NRI son, woman on fake attendance

Chandigarh: An employee of Punjabi University, Patiala, who was posted as a supervisor on contract in the security department, has been dismissed on corruption charges.
Rupinder Singh is accused of withdrawing salary of two people, including his son, by forging documents.
The allegations against Rupinder Singh have been proved in the investigation of a three-member committee formed by the university administration.
One of the two persons whose fake attendance was taking salary is the employee’s own son Gurpreet Singh, who has been living in New Zealand since 2017, but the accused obtained his salary from 2015 to 2021 by showing him as a contract employee of the security staff through the fake presence of his son.
During the investigation, Rupinder Singh has accepted the charge.
In the second case, Rupinder Singh also used the name of kuldeep Kaur, a woman living in his neighbourhood, as a contract worker of the security staff and faked her attendance and received salary from 2019 to 2021.
During the investigation, when contacted with Kuldeep Kaur, it was revealed that she is a woman doing domestic work. On behalf of the accused, she was given Rs 1000 per month in return for this wrong act, officials said.
