Resignations of Dhami and Badungar are unfortunate: Giani Harpreet Singh

Chandigarh: Former Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh criticized the resignations of SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami and former president Kirpal Singh Badungar from the seven-member committee formed by the Akal Takht, stating that the role was a responsibility assigned by the Akal Takht and should not be abandoned.

He made the remarks during a press conference at the Chief Khalsa Diwan office.

Commenting on Advocate Dhami’s resignation as SGPC president, Giani Harpreet Singh described it as “unfortunate” but predicted that the SGPC’s internal committee would reject it.

He claimed his own decision to step down as Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib was politically motivated and driven by jealousy.

He dismissed allegations of jealousy influencing the Panj Singh Sahiban’s December 2 decision, suggesting instead that those receiving salaries might harbor such sentiments.

Addressing recruitment issues within the Shiromani Akali Dal, Giani Harpreet Singh alleged that bogus recruitments were occurring, which could result in the election of an illegitimate president.

When questioned about Aam Aadmi Party MLA Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar being seen with him, he defended Nijjar, stating that he is first a Sikh, then the president of Chief Khalsa Diwan, and lastly an MLA, implying that there was nothing wrong with his presence at the event.
