Rs 1 crore collected from farmers for stubble burning in Punjab
The Punjab government has imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore on farmers after cases of stubble burning were reported this season. But only 53% of that has been collected as fine so far. This information has been given by the Punjab government in the Supreme Court (SC). After which the SC has ordered the Punjab government to speed up the recovery.
In the last few months, stubble burning incidents in Punjab have been raised at the national level amid increasing pollution incidents in Delhi. The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the governments of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to file progress reports within two months on steps taken to curb air pollution.
