SAD allege BJP-backed conspiracy against party, attacks Giani Harpreet Singh
Chandigarh: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders Paramjit Singh Sarna and Manjit Singh GK have accused Giani Harpreet Singh of acting at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to weaken SAD, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), and Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
They alleged that Singh’s participation in the so-called Panthic Convention, organized by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DSGMC), was part of a “deep-rooted conspiracy” orchestrated by the BJP.
Speaking at a press conference, the leaders claimed that the convention aimed to weaken SAD’s position in negotiations for an alliance with the BJP.
They further alleged that the BJP had been influencing Sikh Jathedars, with Giani Harpreet Singh playing a key role in advancing its agenda.
Sarna and Manjit Singh GK also accused Giani Harpreet Singh of facilitating the sale of a DSGMC-run school in Delhi for Rs 500 crore.
They claimed he had convened a meeting of five former DSGMC presidents to discuss the sale. Additionally, they criticized Singh for honoring Manjinder Singh Sirsa with a siropao despite Sirsa’s past actions being dismissed as impure at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on December 2.
Sarna further alleged that Giani Harpreet Singh had asked him to resign as the president of a faction of SAD, claiming it was part of a broader effort to unite the party and elect a new leader.
According to Sarna, Singh had stated that he had the BJP’s backing and that an alliance between SAD and BJP was inevitable.
Sarna challenged Giani Harpreet Singh to a debate on the matter, asserting that he was prepared to discuss the allegations at any time.
