SAD Sudhar Lehar leaders meet Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, call for unity in the Panth

Chandigarh: Leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sudhar Lehar, including Gurpatap Singh Wadala, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, Surjit Singh Rakhra, and Gaganjit Singh Barnala, met suspended Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, on Thursday following his emotional appeal to the Panth.

The meeting took place at Giani Harpreet Singh’s residence in Talwandi Sabo.

Speaking to the media, the leaders expressed solidarity with Giani Harpreet Singh, criticizing social media trolling and alleged targeting of the Jathedar.

Prof Chandumajra said that the orders of the Akal Takht, the supreme authority for Sikhs, had been upheld by the reform movement. However, he expressed concern over the growing defiance of these orders by some factions, which he described as detrimental to Sikh unity.

“Giani Harpreet Singh was appointed according to SGPC rules, and any inquiry against Jathedars must have the approval of the Akal Takht. The inquiry against him by an unauthorized committee is unacceptable,” Chandumajra said.

The leaders called for unity within the Panth, said that there is need for collective efforts to address the challenges faced by Sikh institutions.

They also announced plans to submit a memorandum to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghubir Singh, urging him to intervene and ensure that the authority of the Akal Takht is upheld.
