SAD (Waris Punjab De) begins membership drive, eyes 2027 elections

Chandigarh: Members of the newly formed Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Waris Punjab De gathered at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Saturday to pray for the release of detained party members and captive Sikhs.

MP Amritpal Singh’s father, Tarsem Singh, announced plans to launch a membership drive for the party soon.

Speaking at the event, Member of Parliament Sarabjit Singh Khalsa confirmed the party’s intention to contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Additionally, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee plans to field its candidates in the elections. According to Khalsa, there has been significant demand for membership forms since the party’s launch, reflecting growing public interest.

Criticizing the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), Khalsa accused the party of disregarding the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Tarsem Singh echoed the sentiment, stating that the Akali Dal had lost its moral authority to lead Punjab and was avoiding directives issued by the Takht.
