Seechewal defends water conservation model, says alternative schemes failed

Jalandhar: AAP Rajya Sabha member and environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal defended his water conservation model, saying it had been successful, while alternative schemes had failed to deliver results.

His remarks came amid a controversy sparked by Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, who called the model a “complete failure” and accused the government of promoting it for political gains.

The Punjab assembly had on Thursday passed a resolution condemning Bajwa’s comments.

Breaking his silence, Seechewal asserted that his model, implemented in his native village Seechewal since 1999, has been running successfully.

He claimed that the model is operational in about 250 villages across Punjab and has consistently proven its effectiveness. In contrast, he said the “Thapar model,” created by engineers, had failed.
