SGPC bans use of perfumes in Sri Darbar Sahib, other historic gurdwaras

Amritsar News: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has banned the use of perfumes in Sri Harmandir Sahib and other historic gurdwaras.
In this regard, the SGPC has also issued necessary guidelines to the managers of all the historical gurdwaras under Section 85. In Sri Harmandir Sahib, such perfumes are used while bringing the holy saroop from Sri Akal Takht and at the time of Sukh asana.
Similarly, such perfumes are also used at Sri Akal Takht and other religious places. Most of the perfumes currently in use include alcohol and chemicals. The matter was raised by the inter-committee member Bhai Gurpreet Singh Randhawa in the meeting of the inter-committee held recently.
A few days after the meeting, a letter was issued to the managers of all gurdwaras under Section 85 under the signature of SGPC secretary Partap Singh in this regard, prohibiting the use of such perfumes.
Secretary Partap Singh said that due to the use of such perfumes, the Guru Granth Sahib is adversely affected. Such perfumes are also causing respiratory diseases. He said that complaints were also received from SGPC members and sangat in this regard, on the basis of which the action was taken by the SGPC. Instead, instructions have been given to gurdwara managers and sangats to use natural perfumes prepared from flowers which are not harmful.
