SGPC President meets Akal Takht Jathedar amid ongoing controversy

Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami held a closed-door meeting with Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh on Thursday.

The meeting, held at the Jathedar’s residence, remains shrouded in secrecy, with neither side disclosing details.

Sources suggest the discussion may have centered on the seven-member committee formed by Dhami to address recruitment issues within the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Advocate Dhami, who chairs the committee, has not convened a meeting of the panel since its formation. In a video message, he dismissed speculation about the meeting, calling it routine.

The development follows a Wednesday meeting between a SAD delegation and Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh. The delegation reportedly raised concerns over the legal complications posed by the committee, asserting that it cannot interfere in the party’s elections.

They emphasized that the SAD’s election process must adhere to constitutional provisions, warning that any intervention could jeopardize the party’s existence.
