SGPC rejects Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh’s resignation

Amritsar: The president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, has turned down the resignation of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, urging him to continue his role as before.

This development comes after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, and other SAD leaders met with Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh. They offered an apology on behalf of SAD for the recent events that led to Giani Harpreet Singh’s resignation.

Giani Harpreet Singh had stepped down from his position yesterday, accusing SAD leader Virsa Singh Valtoha of misconduct. In response, Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh ordered SGPC President Dhami to reject the resignation, warning that if it were accepted, other Singh Sahibans would also step down.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema stated that SAD is committed to upholding the dignity of the Akal Takht and assured that any Akali leader undermining the Jathedar’s authority would face strict disciplinary action.
