SGPC removes Akal Takht, Kesgarh Sahib Jathedars; appoints new ones

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to remove Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Sultan Singh from their positions. Jaswant Singh Parain, an opposition member in the inter-ministerial committee, disclosed the decision.

Despite their removal, Giani Raghbir Singh and Giani Sultan Singh will continue to serve as Head Granthi and Granthi, respectively, at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Meanwhile, the SGPC has appointed Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj as the acting Jathedar of Akal Takht and the Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. Sant Tek Singh Dhanaula has been nominated as the Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.

The SGPC’s annual budget session has been scheduled for March 28. The matter regarding the resignation of advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has been put on hold for now.
