SGPC, SAD condemn attacks on Sikh pilgrims in Himachal Pradesh
Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema have condemned alleged anti-Sikh activities in Himachal Pradesh, urging the state government to take action against communal elements.
In a statement issued from the SGPC office, Dhami said Sikh devotees frequently visit religious shrines across the country, but incidents in Himachal Pradesh have raised concerns. He alleged that some individuals were forcibly removing pictures and flags, including those of Nishan Sahib and Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, from vehicles of Sikh pilgrims, creating an atmosphere of fear.
He said such incidents were detrimental to national unity and reminded that Sikhs had made significant sacrifices for the country. “Everyone has the right to practice their religion and visit religious sites,” Dhami said, criticizing both the Himachal Pradesh administration and the Punjab government for not addressing the issue.
Dhami urged the Himachal Pradesh government to take a firm stand and ensure action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema raised the issue on his ‘X’ account, urging the Union Home Minister to intervene. SAD has condemned the repeated attacks on Sikh pilgrims and tourists from Punjab in Himachal Pradesh and other hill states, calling for strict action against those responsible. The party also appealed for peace and communal harmony.
