SGPC terminates Giani Harpreet Singh’s services, Jathedar reacts
Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has officially terminated the services of Giani Harpreet Singh, the jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.
The decision was based on the findings of a sub-committee formed to investigate allegations against him, SGPC’s media secretary confirmed.
Giani Harpreet Singh had been facing serious allegations from a relative in an old case, leading the SGPC to suspend his services pending an inquiry.
However, he claimed that the action against him was linked to his role in the December 2 sentencing of former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal by the Akal Takht.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh questioned the SGPC’s jurisdiction over investigating jathedars. Meanwhile, the SGPC has appointed Giani Jagtar Singh as the new jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.
Several SGPC members have criticized the decision, calling it politically motivated and expressing their support for Giani Harpreet Singh.
