SGPC to frame rules for jathedar appointments, retirement
Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to establish rules for the appointment, retirement, and scope of jathedars.
SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami shared this development, stating that future decisions regarding jathedar posts will consider the opinions of Sikh communities.
Dhami, who visited the SGPC office for the first time since his resignation was rejected, told reporters that a high-level committee would be formed to draft these rules. A resolution on the matter will be presented in the upcoming budget session for approval.
He added that the “one person, one post” policy would be implemented for jathedars, and the vacant position of Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s jathedar would be filled soon in consultation with panthic organizations.
“Sikh traditions and history are our guiding light. These will be upheld collectively to address challenges faced by the community,” Dhami said.
He also warned that anti-Sikh forces were attempting to weaken Sikh institutions, stressing that unity was crucial to counter such efforts.
