Shambhu border will not open yet; Supreme Court says, ‘Talk to farmers’
New Delhi: The Shambhu border between Haryana and Punjab will not open yet. Due to the farmer movement, the Haryana government has barricaded it and closed it.
The Haryana government had challenged the High Court’s order to open the border in the Supreme Court.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ordered that status quo be maintained at the Shambhu border near Ambala, where farmers have been camping since February 13.
The court asked Punjab and Haryana to take steps to remove barricades at the Shambhu border in a phased manner so that no inconvenience is caused to the public.
The Supreme Court said that it proposes to constitute an impartial committee. This will include eminent persons who will be able to contact farmers and other stakeholders to find a pragmatic solution to their demands that is fair, equitable and in the interest of all.
The Supreme Court today asked the Punjab and Haryana governments to suggest some names of members in the independent committee or it may find suitable persons for the panel. The Supreme Court asked both the states to suggest names within a week.
