Sheetal Angural’s link with drug mafia new headache for BJP
Jalandhar: The links of controversial former MLA Sheetal Angural, who has recently joined BJP, with kingpin of international drug racket has created major embarrassment and headache for the saffron party.
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police had recently busted this international drug racket which used to supply the opium to various countries through courier service. The kingpin of this racket has been identified as Jalandhar based youth Manish alias Mani Thakur who is based in UK. Sources said that Sheetal, who was elected as AAP MLA in 2022, had tried to exert pressure on Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Swapan Sharma to drop charges against his friend.
However, when the upright officer had refused to oblige him, Angural had approached the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant singh Mann for his intervention into the matter. But the Chief Minister had rebuked Angural and apprised him about zero tolerance policy against drug smugglers and their sympathisers. Highly placed sources said that miffed over the matter Angural had bid good bye to AAP and joined BJP.
However, with pics of Sheetal Angural and Mani Thakur making rounds on social media it is creating major embarrassment for the saffron party. Sources said that the party is on fix about stance to be adopted over the issue which may snow ball into a major issue in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. It may be recalled that Sheetal Angural is not new to controversy as several cases under serious charges have been registered against him.
