Shutdown in Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala over Pahalgam terror attack
Jalandhar: Markets and commercial establishments remained closed in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala districts on Thursday as a mark of protest against the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
The shutdown in Hoshiarpur was observed following a call by various Hindu organisations, shopkeepers, and traders.
Members of several Hindu groups, led by Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena’s state secretary Mohan Lal ‘Lucky’ Thakur, took out a protest march through the city’s main markets. The protesters raised slogans against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and urged local shopkeepers to close their businesses in solidarity.
The demonstrators demanded a strong response from the Centre against the killings in Pahalgam. Members of Sikh organisations also participated in the protest. Authorities confirmed that the bandh remained peaceful, with no reports of any untoward incident.
In Kapurthala, most commercial establishments stayed shut as protesters called for exemplary action against those responsible for the terror attack.
