Sift Kaur Samra wins Gold and Silver medals in Asian Games
Chandigarh News: Punjab’s Shooting star Sift Kaur Samra won one Gold and one Silver medal for India in the ongoing Asian Games at Hangzhou today. She also set the new World Record Individual Final.
Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer while congratulating the talented shooter of Faridkot and said that Sift has brought glory to the name of the state and the country with this best performance. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s dream of making Punjab the leading state in sports again will be fulfilled by players like Sift. The players of Punjab have been consistently performing well in the ongoing Asian Games.
Meet Hayer said that this achievement is a source of inspiration for new age sportspersons, especially girls in Punjab. He attributed this achievement to the shooter’s hard work and her parents and coaches. Sift Samra was part of the torch relay in the opening ceremony of the Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan and was also given a check of Rs 8 lakh by the Punjab government for the preparation under the new Sports policy.
Sift Kaur Samra won the Gold medal with a new world record in the individual category in the 50 Mtr Rifle 3 position with 469.6 points at Hangzhou. In the same event, another Indian shooter Ashi Chouksey won the bronze medal. Sift also won the Silver medal in the team event of 50 Mtr Rifle 3 Position.
Meanwhile, Punjab’s Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Gurjoat Singh Khangura won the Bronze medal in the team event of Skeet Shooting. Sports Minister Meet Hayer also congratulated both of them.
