Sippy Sidhu murder case: SC bench recuses itself from hearing accused’s plea
New Delhi: About eight years ago, national-level shooter Sukhmanpreet Singh, also known as Sippy Sidhu, was killed in Chandigarh. Now, a new twist has emerged in the case.
A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court has recused itself from the petition filed by Kalyani Singh, the daughter of an accused former judge in the case.
A vacation bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma recused itself from the case. They stated that they are unwilling to hear the case because the accused is the daughter of a former judge.
They directed that the matter be listed before another vacation bench next week.
Kalyani Singh’s lawyer, Siddharth Dave, said he had challenged the Punjab and Haryana High Court order in the apex court. The order was issued by the High Court on April 25, which dismissed the plea seeking statements of witnesses recorded by the Chandigarh Police.
