Six Congress councillors join AAP in Bhogpur

Jalandhar: In a significant political development, six Congress councillors who won the Bhogpur Municipal Council elections in Punjab’s Jalandhar have joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The councillors switched allegiance under the leadership of Punjab AAP president and Jalandhar Central MLA, Raman Arora.

This shift has dealt a major blow to the Congress, which initially held the majority in the council. Out of 13 wards, Congress had won eight seats, while AAP secured five.

With six councillors moving to AAP, the Congress has lost its majority, allowing AAP to gain control of the Bhogpur Municipal Council.

The Congress had been poised to appoint the council president but is now left without the numbers to do so.

Meanwhile, AAP is expected to announce the name of the new president shortly, further consolidating its position in the region.

This political realignment follows days of tension, during which Congress leaders made allegations against administrative officials regarding the council’s functioning.

The defection of the councillors has significantly weakened the party’s hold on the Bhogpur Municipal Council.
