Sucha Singh Langah re-inducted into Akali Dal fold after 7 years
Chandigarh: Sucha Singh Langah has officially rejoined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The decision to reinstate him was made by the party’s executive president, Balwinder Singh Bhundar. The party announced this development through a post on their social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). Langah had been out of the party for almost seven years.
Speculation has now arisen that Langah may be the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-elections in the Dera Baba Nanak constituency. In its official post, the party mentioned that they received a letter from Langah, in which he stated that all charges against him had been cleared by the court.
Langah further explained that the case against him had been brought before the supreme authority of the Khalsa Panth, the Akal Takht. Following a review of the matter, the Akal Takht allowed him to rejoin the Khalsa Panth.
When the accusations were first made, Langah immediately resigned from all party positions. In his letter, he wrote that he has been a dedicated Akali from birth and will remain one until his last breath. He humbly requested an opportunity to serve the party once again.
After reviewing Langah’s request and the facts he presented, the party decided to allow him to serve once again as a regular member. The accusations against Langah stemmed from a complaint filed on September 29, 2017, by a female constable who alleged that he had been raping her since 2009. She also submitted a video clip as evidence, which led the Gurdaspur police to file a case against him. On October 5, 2017, Langah surrendered in court.
However, he was later acquitted after the complainant retracted her statements.
