Sunil Jakhar announces protest in Punjab after grenade attack on BJP leader’s house in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: BJP leader Sunil Jakhar on Monday announced a statewide sit-in protest after a grenade attack at the residence of senior BJP leader and former minister Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar.

Jakhar accused the Punjab government of failing to maintain law and order, alleging that the state was in the grip of chaos with repeated blasts being reported.

“There is an atmosphere of chaos across Punjab. Serial bomb blasts are taking place, which is a very serious issue,” he said while addressing a press conference.

He further alleged that the Punjab government was being run by people from Delhi, and called Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Director General of Police “puppets”.

Jakhar claimed that explosions had taken place at 14 police stations, and even the Intelligence Wing office had been attacked with rockets.

He criticised the Punjab Police, saying, “The police commissioner said something like a blast had happened. This shows how seriously they are taking it.”

In response to the latest incident, Jakhar announced a two-hour sit-in protest to be held across Punjab from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Meanwhile, teams of the commissionerate police launched raids in Jalandhar and nearby areas following the grenade attack on Kalia’s house.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Dhillon, who has been leading the investigation since 2 am, confirmed that several youths had been detained for questioning. Sources said the police have taken suspects into custody from Gada and Bhargav camps in Jalandhar.
