Sunil Jakhar ‘resigns’ as BJP president
Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has resigned from the post. Jakhar was given the responsibility just a few years ago. With Jakhar’s resignation, the BJP has become presidentless just before the panchayat polls.
Sources close to Jakhar and sources in the BJP’s Punjab unit and national organisation have also confirmed Jakhar’s resignation.
Jakhar also skipped the crucial meeting of the party convened to chalk out a strategy and discuss the panchayat polls.
According to sources, when a senior Punjab BJP functionary called Jakhar about his participation in today’s meeting, he said he would not attend any meeting today or in future as the party’s state president.
When contacted, Jakhar refused to comment on his resignation. “This is an internal matter of the party. Sources said the BJP leadership is yet to accept Jakhar’s resignation.
