Supreme Court rejects plea against bail to Bikram Majithia

Chandigarh: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the Punjab government’s appeal challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision to grant bail to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a drug-related case.

A bench comprising Justices J K Maheshwari and Arvind Kumar said it would not entertain the plea filed by the state government. The court, however, directed both Majithia and the state probe agency to refrain from making any public statements to the media regarding the investigation.

The bench clarified that the Anti-Drug Special Task Force (STF) is free to move a petition seeking the cancellation of Majithia’s bail if he is found attempting to influence witnesses or interfere with the trial. Additionally, the court instructed the STF to obtain prior approval before making any public statement on the case.
