Punjab E News: The number of zero electricity bills rose to 90.07 per cent in DecemberChandigarh: The Punjab government had been providing 300 units of free electricity every month from July 1 to reduce the burden of expensive electricity. After which the number of zero electricity bills in Punjab is increasing continuously. After which the consumption of electricity has registered an increase of one thousand Megawatts.
The power demand was recorded between 6,700 MW and 7,000 MW in December last year. But this time in December itself, the demand for electricity has increased from 7100 MW to 8000 MW from December 22 to December 25.
In addition, the number of zero electricity bills has reached 90.07 per cent till December 19, while 62.36 per cent of zero electricity bills were issued till July 31. In August 2022, the number of zero bills had increased to 67.53 per cent. In September 2022, the number of zero electricity bills reached 70.74 per cent in October and 86.87 per cent in November.
In the five months, the subsidy amount of zero electricity bills has reached close to Rs 3900 crore, while the arrears for three months of the financial year are still there. In the financial year 2022-23, the figure of zero bill subsidy is expected to be more than 4 thousand crores.
